  • Student Accomplishment: A fifth grade student recently participated in the Future Problem Solvers state competition as a scenario writer.  As she traveled to the state competition, she was approved to participate as an alternate for the state competition.  As with the global issues writers, the alternates go through the same 6 step procedure for solving a world issue problem but with students they have never met before.  During the competition this fifth grade student showed excellent work ethic and creativity to the world issue problem and led the team to placing first place amongst the alternate groups.  The day after the competition, the results came back qualifying the fifth grader as the Junior Division scenario writing to represent Iowa at the International FPS Conference.  Not only was she selected for this, but because of the hard work and creativity she displayed during the alternative competition, she was selected to be the Iowa Flag Bearer for the opening ceremonies.  This is a great honor and privilege that is rarely given to a junior division student.  The competition is set for June 7-10 at Indiana University in Bloomington, IN.
