Welcome to Whittier Elementary School

Whittier School is a place where students are able to reach their maximum potential. Staff, parents, and community all work together to help students achieve to the highest level possible. There are three sections of each grade level, as well as special education programs. Our strong core academic program is complimented by an equally strong collection of enriching and fun experiences that allow our students to enjoy their time with us.

This year we are continuing to focus on increasing our students' skills and abilities in reading. Students who demonstrate a need for additional assistance in reading are given additional focused instruction to help them close the gap between their skills and the grade level expectations.

Our staff is committed to providing our students with focused, high-quality instruction and learning activities, never forgetting that children also need a staff that will love and care for them as individuals and help them develop socially and emotionally. This is our third year of implementing Positive Behavior Interventions Support. We will continue to recognize positive behaviors in our students.

A highly supportive PTA assists the school in meeting its educational goals and providing enriching activities for our students. Volunteers are also a strength of Whittier and are encouraged to assist in all facets of the school.

A warm and nurturing climate abounds at Whittier and students are at the center of all decisions made at the building level. We strive to develop the whole child - intellectually, emotionally, socially and physically. We want all of our students, staff, parents and community to be proud of the Whittier School Community.

Also, recently the Clinton Community School District was the proud recipient of the 2010 Breaking Barriers to Learning and Teaching Award.  This award is presented each year by the State Board of Education.  It recognizes successful efforts to eliminate achievement gaps by improving instruction, curriculum and programs for students, and professional development opportunities for school staff.

Whittier is proud not only of the role our educators play in helping each child succeed, but also the part parents play by spending quality tme with their children and encouraging them with classroom assignments.
