Induction Class of 2013 – Head Track Coach

Bill Holsclaw is a 1946 graduate of Estherville High School.  Holsclaw enlisted in the army, and after serving a stint in Korea, he signed a minor league pitching contract with the Brooklyn Dodgers.  The contract was terminated due to the federalization of his National Guard unit to Nuremberg, Germany.  While in Germany, Holsclaw was selected to play defensive end on the infantry football team that won the Eucon Army Championship.  Upon his release, Holsclaw was awarded a scholarship to Morningside College, where he was a five sport letterman.  Holsclaw was the co-captain of the 1954 championship football team that was inducted into the Morningside Hall of Fame in 2012.

In 1957, Holsclaw started his career at Clinton High School.  Holsclaw coached spring track, cross country, swimming and football.  Holsclaw’s track team won nine state championships and he coached eighteen individual state champions and four relays to state titles. Holsclaw was selected as Iowa State Coach of the Year six times during his career.  He was selected as Honorary Referee of the Drake Relays and inducted into the Iowa Track Coaches Hall of Fame in 1987.
