Burt Ingwersen – Class of 1916

Burt Ingwersen was a 1916 graduate of Clinton High School. Ingwersen was a member of the 1913-1914 mythical Iowa High School state championship football team.
After high school, Ingwersen played at the University of Illinois on the 1919 National championship team. After graduating, he played professionally for George Halas and the Decatur Staleys.
After his playing career ended, Ingwersen was hired as an assistant football coach at Illinois where he was part of the staff winning the National championship in 1923. In 1924, Ingwersen was named head football coach at the University of Iowa where he had a 33-27-4 record in an eight-year career. He later served as the head baseball coach at Northwestern University until the start of World War II. After the War, Ingwersen returned to Illinois as an assistant football coach, retiring in 1966.
