Raymond “Bud” Kearney is a 1964 graduate of Clinton High School.  During Kearney’s three years of eligibility, the Clinton High School swim team finished in 1st or 2nd place at the state championships.  At the 1964 meet, Kearney broke two records in the 100 yard freestyle and the 200 yard freestyle.  Kearney was acclaimed the outstanding performer among a field of stars, and became only the 12th swimmer to break two records in the same state meet in the first 28 years of the championships.

After high school, Kearney attended the University of Iowa where he earned three varsity letters.  He was inducted into the Iowa High School Athletic Association Swimming Hall of Fame in 2015.
