Dean Pieper is a 1947 graduate of Clinton High School. Pieper was a member of the
“Fire-Wagon Five” basketball team that was one of the most successful teams in the history of Clinton High School. Pieper’s most outstanding accomplishments were in track where his mile time of 4:21.8 in 1947 was one of the fastest in the nation.

After graduation, Pieper attended Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois where he was a member of the basketball and track teams. During his career at Northwestern, Pieper was the third ranked miler in the Big 10. After graduation, he taught and coached at Monmouth, Illinois, winning conference championships in basketball and track.
