Sheena James – Class of 2003
Induction Class of 2016 – Softball, Swimming & Diving, Track & Field
Sheena James came to Clinton High School as a sophomore in 2001. She was a 3 year letter winner in swimming and diving and track and field, and a letter winner in softball for the River Queens. She held Clinton High’s shot put record for 14 years after she set it in 2002. In 2002 she was the runner-up in shot put at the Drake Relays and was a participant on the 2002 state champion and state record setting pentathlon team. In 2003 James won the shot put at the Drake Relays and also became the state champion in the shot put. James remains in the top 10 all-time shot put leaders in Iowa.
Upon graduating, James attended Purdue University where she was a four-year letter winner for the Boilermakers and set and held the indoor and outdoor shot put record for a few years. In 2007 James earned an individual Big Ten Conference Title in the outdoor shot put with a distance of 15.98 meters.
James began her college coaching career at Ashford University. She started as an assistant track and field coach for the Saints in 2008 and later became the Head Track and Field Coach. James also served as the Saint’s Strength and Conditioning Specialist. James just finished her 8th season coaching for the Saints.
