Sharon Zaehringer-Boyd – Class of 1984
Induction Class of 2017 – Volleyball
Zaehringer-Boyd was a 1st Team All-Mississippi Eight Athletic Conference selection in 1982 and 1983. Zaehringer-Boyd led the state in kills per game as a senior with an average of 5.66 per game.
Zaehringer-Boyd was named to the state All-Tournament team twice, including being named captain of the 1982 team, and was named to the All-State volleyball team twice. Zaehringer-Boyd was selected to the Iowa All-Star volleyball game and was a finalist for the Quad City Times Athlete of the Year her senior year.
Zaehringer-Boyd also participated in tennis in high school, and was the 1983 Mississippi Eight Athletic Conference Doubles Champion, with her partner Jean Taylor. Zaehringer-Boyd and Taylor were also sectional and regional champions, and finished fifth at the Iowa State meet.
After high school, Zaehringer-Boyd continued her volleyball career at the University of Missouri. She set multiple school records, earned All-Big Eight Conference player of the week honors, and was an All-Big Eight Conference volleyball selection. Zaehringer-Boyd also excelled in the classroom, where she was named to the Academic All-Big Eight team.
Zaehringer-Boyd currently resides in Clinton where she is an occupational therapist. She is married to Dan Boyd and they have two sons, Matthew and Luke.
