Induction Class of 2018 – 1913 & 1914 FOOTBALL TEAMS
The 1913 and 1914 Clinton High School football teams had a combined record of 15 wins, 2 losses, and 1 tie, and claimed two mythical state championships. Both teams included CHS Hall of Famers Murble “Merv” Kline, Burt Ingwersen, and Fred “Duke” Slader.
The 1913 team went 8-1 while outscoring opponents 555-56. They score 116 points in a game versus Keewatin Academy. At the time, the Clinton Herald called the 1913 squad Clinton’s best of all time declaring, “Never has Clinton had such an all-star aggregation as during the past season (1913).” Team was coached by Clinton Osborn.
Clinton’s 1914 team had a record of 7-1-1 as they outscored opponents 353-54. Coach Petersen’s team had five members on the 1st Annual Des Moines Register All-State Team.
