Boys’ Track & Field Teams, 1969 & 1970

The 1969 and 1970 Boys’ Track and Field Teams captured back to back State Championships.

In 1969’s Iowa State Track and Field Championships, the River Kings captured three First Place finishes including Bill Hansen’s 220 yard dash; Fred Schafer’s 880 yard dash; and the 4 x 440 relay team of Tom Scherer, Mark Mirick, Jim Graham, and Bill Hansen.

In 1970’s state meet, the River Kings again collected three First Place performances.  Two came from Chuck Curtis’ 220 yard dash and 440 yard dash and the third was the two mile relay team of Dave Kruse, Fred Schafer, Kim Wilkins, and Dave Frazier.  Second place performances included Jim Shaw in the discus and the mile relay team of Mike Petersen, Dave Kruse, Dave Frazier, and Chuck Curtis.
