Scholarships for the 2023-2024 school year will be listed below as they become available.
Brantley’s Wings Scholarship – Brantley’s wings will be awarding 2 scholarships to a graduating senior advancing their education. Each scholarship will be in the amount of $250. Citizenship participation in school activities, community involvement, and work experience will be considered along with all information included in the application. The application must be submitted to the school counseling office by April 10, 2024. Payment will be sent to the student at their respective college in the month of September. Deadline: April 10, 2024
Clinton County Development Association Scholarship – A total of $9000 in scholarships are available to students who exhibit good character in their school and community and show financial need. Students must have applied and been accepted to a four year or two year college, or technical school, provide one letter of recommendation, and must write an essay containing approximately 500 words describing why they feel they deserve this scholarship. The essay should include specific examples describing how they have shown characteristics such as honesty, integrity, determination, respect, responsibility, fairness, and/or kindness. Volunteer work in the community and/or involvement in your school community should be noted. Application materials must be returned to the School Counseling Office. Deadline: April 5, 2024
Clinton County Development Association Scholarship
Rotary Scholarship – The Clinton Rotary Club Scholarship will be awarded to a qualified student(s) who are planning to attend college after high school graduation. Each scholarship awarded will be a minimum of $1000. Applications can be picked up in the counseling office. Deadline: May 15, 2024
Gary Cox Memorial Scholarship – The Gary Cox Memorial Scholarship fund awards a scholarship to CHS seniors planning to further their education in the trades. Gary was a 1968 graduate of Clinton High School and was a dedicated employee of the Clinton Community School District for 38 years as a custodian and groundskeeper. The scholarship will assist graduating seniors in pursuing a post-secondary education in the trades. A $1000 scholarship will be awarded. The scholarship money will be sent to the Institution the recipient plans to attend. Application requirements include: must be a graduating senior of Clinton High School, applicant must complete application form, list trade classes taken in high school, submit a short essay expressing why they are deserving of this scholarship and include a letter of recommendation from two of their teachers. Applications, essay, and letters of recommendation are due in the counseling office by April 10, 2024. Deadline: April 10, 2024
Clinton Community Para-educator Scholarship – The sum of $500.00 is to be awarded to the Para-educator or child/foster child of a Para-educator. Applicant must be a high school graduate or graduating senior. The purpose of the scholarship is to encourage an individual in their pursuit of continued education. Scholarship money will be paid directly to the institution the recipient will be attending. Sponsoring Para-educators must be a paid member of C.C.P. for the current year. Minimum GPA of 2.75. Para-educators may apply for the scholarship, but it may not be used for any classes offered by Clinton Community School District. Completed application form and the letter of recommendation should be sent directly to the Vice President of Clinton Community Para-educators Association. Deadline: April 15, 2024
Mount St. Clare Charitable Education Trust Scholarships – Several scholarship opportunities are available to students that have graduated or will graduate from a high school located in either Clinton County, Iowa or Whiteside County, Illinois. Either currently attend or will attend a 2 or 4-year University or college within the State of Iowa. The scholarships are awarded by the Mount St. Clare Charitable Education Trust, Clinton National Bank, Trustee. There are several requirements applicants will need to meet for their application to be considered. You must: have graduated or will graduate from a high school located in either Clinton County, Iowa or Whiteside County, Illinois. You must either currently attend or will attend a 2 or 4 year university or college within the State of Iowa. Preference will be given, but is not required, for those meeting the above requirements and attending a Catholic post-secondary institution or attending a community college located in Clinton County Iowa. Awards will be made on an annual basis only. Recipients may re-apply for subsequent years. No awards will be made for more than one year at a time. A list of scholarships is a part of the application and you must indicate which scholarships you wish to apply. You must provide a copy of your letter of acceptance if you have not yet started post-secondary classes or a copy of a current college transcript if you have taken post-secondary classes. If the additional requirements include a showing of financial need, submit a copy of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) with the application. Brian L. Galusha Memorial Scholarship - The Brian Galusha Memorial Scholarship of $500 will be awarded to a graduating student from Clinton High School pursuing higher education. Brian worked as a teacher, associate principal, and mentor at Clinton High School until his retirement in the spring of 2022. Before teaching, he served in the US Army before becoming a dedicated farmer. Applications are available in the counseling office and must be returned by April 15, 2024. Deadline: April 15, 2024

Kiwanis Club of Clinton Scholarship – The Clinton Kiwanis Club will award a $500 scholarship to a graduating CHS senior who plans to pursue higher education. The scholarship shall be based upon the following factors: Rank in class and scholastic achievement, potential for further success, financial need, community involvement and how it coincides with the Kiwanis mission and how your future plans coincide with the Kiwanis mission. Seven essay questions must be answered and application must be completed. Applications can be picked up in the counseling office and should be returned by May 1, 2024. Deadline: May 1, 2024
Kiwanis Club of Clinton Scholarship
Patrick Proud Memorial Music Scholarship – Clinton High School Band Boosters has established a college scholarship in the amount of $500 for a CHS instrumental music student who plans to major or minor in music. Student must have participated in a high school instrumental music program for four (4) years. Provide 2 letters of recommendation. Write a 300-500 word essay on the topic “Why I want to major or minor in music”. Essay must be type written. Applicant must also show proof of acceptance or attendance at an accredited educational institution. Collegiate applications will be accepted as well and must provide a third letter of recommendation from a professor at their college/university music department. Collegiate criteria: must have participated in a high school instrumental program for four years, at least one year at Clinton High School, plan to major or minor in music at an accredited institution, be a college freshman or sophomore, and no more than two years since graduating from Clinton High school. Must show continued participation in post high school related activities, GPA records are required, and should be included in the application, and financial need may be considered. Applications are available in the counseling office and must be returned by April 5, 2024. The winner of the Patrick Proud Scholarship will be determined by a committee of three individuals representing the orchestra and band fields. Deadline: April 5, 2024

Jean Hammer Lentz Music Award – One $1000 award is offered to a CHS student who plans to complete a college degree in a music major or minor. The scholarship is based on musical ability, financial need, community involvement, volunteerism, school activities, and recommendation of a music teacher. Applicant should show sufficient academic qualifications to assure success at the college level and reasonable assurance that the student will follow through with the ultimate goal for a major or minor in music. Applications are available and should be returned to the School Counseling Office. Recipient of scholarship will be announced at one of the “end of the year” music concerts. Deadline: April 5, 2024
Society of American Military Engineers, Rock Island Post – S.A.M.E. is offering a combination of one-year, two-year and four-year scholarships to qualified students who are pursuing a baccalaureate degree in engineering and the physical sciences. One-year and two-year scholarships will be awarded at the $1000 and $2000 levels to a combination of graduating high school seniors and student members of the University of Iowa SAME Student Post. High school seniors and student members of the University of Iowa SAME Student Post will be ranked separately. Four-year scholarships will be awarded at the $4000 level ($1000 per year for four years) to graduating high school seniors. Ag Coop Safety Directors of Iowa Scholarship – The ACSDIA Scholarship will consist of multiple scholarship awards totaling up to $3000 given to the recipient’s college, university, or trade school in the Fall 2024 Academic Semester. Applicant must be pursuing a major in an agriculture or safety related field. Application must be completed, accompanied by one signed letter of recommendation from a non-family member and a maximum 1000 word essay on “What does agricultural safety mean to you?” Applications are available in the counseling office and can be downloaded at http://www.acsdia.org/scholarship.html and must be submitted in PDF format to ACSDIAScholarship@gmail.com by 4:00 pm on April 15. Deadline: April 15, 2024
Clinton County Master Gardener Scholarship - This scholarship is open to any graduating high school senior residing in Clinton County with a cumulative GPA above 2.5. Applicant must be accepted at an accredited institution of higher learning to pursue a degree in Horticulture. The $1000 scholarship is non-renewable and will be paid directly to the college in the amount of $500 each semester. A committee of Master Gardeners will select the recipient. Students must submit completed application, transcript, essay, and two letters of recommendation. Drama/Speech Scholarship sponsored by Footlight Friends – The purpose of the Footlight Friends Scholarship is to reward deserving CHS graduating seniors for their participation in and contribution to the CHS Drama and Speech Department and its many activities and events. Scholarship amount and number of scholarships awarded will be determined annually by Footlight Friends, Inc. The applicant’s parent/guardian must be a member of Footlight Friends, Inc. (paid membership for 2023-24 academic year). Applicant must have participated in the CHS drama/speech program, plan to pursue a degree at an accredited two or four-year institution. (That degree need not be in speech or drama.) Application must be completed, accompanied by two letters of recommendation from a non-family source; one from an administrator, teacher, or counselor at CHS, and one from the community. A 300-500 word essay on the topic “How I benefited from participation in drama/speech at CHS” must be included, along with proof of acceptance at an accredited education institution before scholarship can be paid. Application and materials must be returned to the CHS Counseling Office no later than March 22, 2024. Deadline: March 22, 2024
Terry Krause Memorial Scholarship – This local $500 annual scholarship is in memory of Terry Krause. The scholarship goal is to recognize & reward a graduate pursuing education in welding or a similar trade. Terry passed away suddenly in May 2022 and owned a local welding business. He was a 1989 Clinton High School graduate and mentored many students from the area over the years at his welding shop. Applications are available in the counseling office and must be completed and returned by Friday, April 20. Deadline: April 20, 2024

Clinton Firefighters Local 609 – Ben Jess Memorial Scholarship – The Clinton Firefighters Memorial scholarship fund is an annual award of $500 to be given to 4 graduating seniors from either: Clinton or Prince of Peace High Schools who intend to further their education at an approved institution. The scholarship is in memory of Ben Jess, who was a Clinton Firefighter from March 1988 until April 1992, when he was forced to retire after being diagnosed with ALS. Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) is a form of Muscular Dystrophy, better known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. To apply students need to: complete an application, include 2 letters of recommendation from someone other than a relative, enclose an official high school transcript, and have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or better. Students who have any disabilities or parents with a disability are encouraged to apply. Application materials must be turned into the Counseling Office. Student Insights, Student View Scholarship – The 2024 Student View Scholarship program is offering $14,000 worth of scholarships to high school seniors who plan to attend a four-year college, community/junior college or career school. The program includes: one-$10,000 scholarship, two-$1000 scholarships and five-$500 scholarships. It’s quick and easy to apply: no minimum SAT/ACT score or grade point average, no essay required, no application forms, and no application fees. Simply log onto http://www.student-view.com and complete a 15-20 minute application survey about colleges in your area. The scholarship will be awarded via a random drawing of all completed applications. The scholarship winner will be announced in May, 2024. The scholarship deadline is April 23, 2024. REC Eastern Iowa Light and Power Scholarship – Twenty-one scholarships are available from Eastern Iowa Light & Power Cooperative. Five of these scholarships are awarded to students planning to pursue a trade-related degree. These $1,000 scholarships are awarded to students planning to pursue a trade-related degree at a community college, technical school or power line school. To be eligible for the Cooperative scholarship program: the student’s parents or guardians must be members of the Eastern Iowa Light & Power Cooperative, complete application form, provide one letter of recommendation from teacher/school administrator, transcript, write a 250-word explanation detailing career goals and how the Cooperative scholarship will help meet career goals, and provide a wallet-size, color head and shoulders photograph. Scholarship application forms can be found at www.easterniowa.com under the “My Cooperative” tab. Applications must be mailed or delivered to a service center by March 11, 2024. Hagan Scholarship Foundation – The Hagan Scholarship is a nationwide need-based merit scholarship. The scholarship is designed to help recipients graduate college debt free. The scholarship provides up to $7,500 each semester for up to 8 consecutive semesters, the opportunity to learn how to invest and then manage a $10,000 Schwab Investment Account, and the opportunity to Study Abroad worth up to $8,000. Eligibility requirements include: Must be a U.S. citizen. Must attend an eligible public high school. Must have achieved a 3.5 cumulative GPA or higher. Must enroll at an eligible four-year college or university the fall semester following high school graduation. Must work 240 hours in the twelve months prior to the start of each academic year of college. Must apply for eligible Federal and State grants. Must not have been convicted of a felony. Iowa ACAC Freddy Miranda Access Scholarship – The Freddy Miranda Access Scholarship is awarded to Iowa high school seniors whose high schools, and chosen colleges, are members of Iowa ACAC. Freddy Miranda was someone who was giving of his time, cared for others, and had a desire to improve the world. Their hope is to honor Freddy’s memory by choosing scholarship recipients that embody similar qualities and characteristics. Students may apply for this scholarship at www.iowaacac.org/inclusion. Although not required, it is highly encouraged that students also include a letter of recommendation from a school counselor, teacher, employer, or advisor. They will not accept letters from immediate family members. The Freddy Miranda Scholarship amount is $1,000 for one year. Special consideration will be given to students from underrepresented populations, who are first generation, and/or demonstrate financial need. Bernard B. and Anna Lehman Scholarship – The Bernard and Anna Lehman Scholarship fund was establish in October of 2011 with the purpose of building a permanent scholarship endowed fund to assist a Clinton High School senior finish a college degree. The maximum scholarship awarded shall be $1,000. The number of scholarships and amount of scholarship may be adjusted based on the actual amount available for distribution. Scholarship is renewable up to the fourth year in college upon maintenance and proof of acceptable minimum 3.2 college GPA. Application requirements include: must be a graduating senior of Clinton High School, cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher, applicant must complete application form and include a copy of their high school transcript. Applications are available in the counseling office and must be submitted by March 10th. Deadline: March 10, 2024
Quad City Engineering and Science Council – The Quad City and Engineering Science Council Scholarship Program was established and is administered by the Council. This program provides multiple one-time grants/scholarships between $1000 and $2500 each for high school seniors pursuing a STEM degree at a 4 year university. These are awarded on an objective basis without regard to race, sex, or religion. Criteria includes academics, civic/community service, extracurricular involvement, career goals, and an essay on why you want a STEM degree. Scholarship awards will be presented at the Annual Engineers Week Banquet on, or about February 22, 2024. Family members are encouraged to attend, but will be required to pay regular event price. Winners will be requested to provide a photo for publication with the award announcement in the QC local newspapers and on the QCESC website. Clinton Fine Arts Assoc. Inc. Scholarship – The purpose of this scholarship is to reward deserving graduating seniors in the city of Clinton for their participation in and contribution to the arts (musical or artistically) and its many activities and events. A $500 scholarship will be awarded and students from Clinton High, Prince of Peace, or homeschooled seniors are encouraged to apply. Applicants must have participated in fine arts activities in high school, have a minimum 3.0 GPA, and plan to pursue a degree at an accredited two or four-year institution. (That degree need not be in fine arts.) Preference will be given to children of CFAA members. Requirements: complete application and submit required documentation, two letters of recommendation from a non-family source, high school transcript, a 300-500 word essay on the topic “How the arts have impacted my life” or provide a portfolio of personal creations, or a five-minute performance video. Seniors must also have a minimum of 25 volunteer hours during their senior year and show proof of acceptance at an accredited education institution before scholarship can be paid. American Legion Auxiliary Second District Iowa (related to Veteran) – Three $300 Merit Awards are available. Requirements include: 1. The applicant must be either a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, or the daughter, granddaughter, great-granddaughter, sister, wife, son, grandson, great-grandson, brother, widow, husband, or step-relative of a WWI or WWII to present day Veteran. 2. The applicant must be a resident of the Second District, attend high school in the Second District, or be eligible through a person paying dues in the Second District Legion or Auxiliary and reside in a District adjacent to the Second District. The Second District includes the following counties: Clinton, Dubuque, Jackson, Jones, Linn and Scott. 3. The applicant must be or must plan to be enrolled in a school within the State of Iowa. Application, transcript, one letter of recommendation and a personal letter should be mailed and received by American Legion by March 15, 2024. Applications can be picked up in the counseling office. First Friday Breakfast Club Scholarship – The First Friday Breakfast Club (FFBC) is an educational, non-profit group for gay, bisexual and transgender men. Monthly meetings provide members and guests and opportunity for education on community affairs from local, state and national opinion leaders and provide them with positive images of the gay community. Annually, the First Friday Breakfast Club awards scholarships to Iowa high school seniors who have demonstrated leadership in efforts to increase education and understanding of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBTQ+) issues and reduce homophobia in their schools and/or communities. Awards will be made in the amount of $3000 per student. Applicant must be a resident of Iowa and plan to pursue post-secondary education. Participated in significant activities to promote LGBT acceptance in his or her school and/or community. Awards are made without regard to gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, race, religion, marital status or employment status. Iowa Section PGA Scholarship – The Charlie Burkart Golf Scholarship is available to any graduating senior residing within the boundaries of the state of Iowa or western Illinois. At least one high school graduate will be the 2024 recipient of $1500 per year for four years at a college or university of their choice. Other previously graduated applicants will be reviewed with additional scholarships awarded when possible. Winners are selected on the basis of their interest and activity in golf, and the potential for future contributions to the game, leadership skills/community involvement, then on their academic/professional ability and financial need. Applicants should submit application, transcript, two letters of recommendation (may be from a high school administrator or teacher, a PGA professional or other non-family connection.), and include a self-statement concerning his/her interest in golf, other activities and awards, his/her educational and vocational plans and financial need. Applicant is requested to send a list of other scholarships they have applied for and those that they have received. ISU Beta Sigma PSI Scholarships:
Darryl Jahn Scholarship – The Alumni of Beta Sigma Psi Lutheran fraternity will be awarding three $2,000 scholarships to Lutheran gentlemen entering Iowa State University in the fall of 2024. Applicants will be evaluated on their scholastic achievement and active participation in their communities and churches. Applications posted prior to February 1, 2024 will be eligible for all three scholarships. If you are not selected for the first scholarship, however, and turned in an early application, your application will be reviewed for the second and third scholarships. Applications posted after February 1 but before April 1, 2024 will be eligible for two of the three scholarships. Applications posted after April 1 but before July 1, 2024 will be eligible for the last scholarship. Beta Sigma Psi is founded on three “S’s”: Spiritual, Scholastic, and Social. Beta Sigma Psi wishes to reward students exhibiting strength in these areas. Candidates will be contacted by a scholarship administrator for further instruction on what additional application materials are required. The top candidates will be invited to Iowa State University for an interview. Deadlines: February 1, April 1 and July 1, 2024

Jake Vanderslice Scholarship – The Alumni of Beta Sigma Psi Lutheran fraternity will be awarding one $1,000 scholarship to Christian gentlemen entering Iowa State University in the fall of 2024. Applicants will be evaluated on their scholastic achievement and active participation in their communities and churches. Applicants must have at least a GPA of 3.25 on a 4.0 scale and must participate in one extra-curricular, work a part-time job, or volunteer regularly. Applications posted prior to July 1, 2024 will be eligible for the award. Beta Sigma Psi is founded on three “S’s”: Spiritual, Scholastic, and Social. Beta Sigma Psi wishes to reward students exhibiting strength in these areas. Candidates will be contacted by a scholarship administrator for further instruction on what additional application materials are required. ISU Christina Hixson Opportunity Awards – The Hixson Opportunity Award is a grant of $20,000 to be used at Iowa State University. The scholarship is made possible through gifts from Christina Hixson and the Lied Foundation Trust, and is awarded annually to 100 Iowa Students. Criteria for eligibility: students must have faced challenges of personal and/or financial hardship. Students must be Iowa residents and possess the potential to succeed, must be admissible to Iowa State University, and demonstrate extreme financial need as determined by filing the FAFSA. The online Hixson Award application is available at http://www.hixson.dso.iastate.edu/. Application procedures are: Complete FAFSA by February 1st, complete the Iowa State University admission process by February 1st and complete the online Hixson application by February 1st.
ISU Dorothy Klindt Memorial Scholarship – This scholarship will be awarded to an entering freshman at Iowa State who is enrolled in the College of Human Sciences. Applicants must be a resident of Iowa and living in one of these Iowa counties: Cedar, Clinton, Muscatine or Scott County, with first preference to female students from rural areas in Scott County. Selection is made on the basis of above average academic work and demonstrated leadership and involvement in community, school, professional organizations and/or work activities. To be considered for this award, students must complete the 2024-25 online scholarship application (OneApp), submit a 2024-25 Free Application Student Aid (FAFSA) and have an offer of admission to Iowa State University. ISU College of Engineering Scholarships – In addition to university-awarded scholarships, each year the College of Engineering grants approximately $3 million in scholarships to engineering students. Scholarship eligibility for incoming students is based on a high school GPA of 3.6 or higher. The scholarship award for Iowa residents is $2750/year if selected. Students are required to achieve a 2.7 cumulative GPA in Fall 2024, remain enrolled in the College of Engineering, and complete an online scholarship application between November 1 2024 – March 1, 2025 to continue the award the second year. The engineering scholarship application will include two essay questions. Students must accept the offer of admission by May 1, 2024 in order to receive any scholarship they may be offered. Myrna Petersen Tubbs Scholarship – The Myrna Petersen Tubbs Scholarship was established through the Dr. Alan R. & Myrna Petersen Tubbs Endowed Donor Advised Fund in 2018 with the purposed of building a permanent scholarship endowed fund to assist a Clinton High School female senior with furthering their education. A maximum scholarship amount of $1000 will be awarded. Applicant requirements include: must be a graduating female senior of Clinton High School, must be pursuing a post-secondary degree in elementary education, preference given to students attending Iowa State University, must submit a copy of high school transcript and must complete and submit the scholarship application form. Applications must be submitted by March 1st to the CHS Counseling Office. A CHS scholarship committee will review applications and select the recipient. Awards shall not be given to direct descendants of committee members. If an applicant should be a direct descendant of a member of the committee, such members shall recues themselves after first appointing temporary committee members to serve in their place until the decision has been made. Myrna Petersen Tubbs Scholarship
Jake Kilburg Memorial Scholarship – A scholarship sponsored by the family of Jake Kilburg and the Impact Life Blood Center is available to a graduating senior from Clinton High School or Clinton High Educational Advancement Center. The amount of the scholarship will be determined in the spring. Jake was a student of CHS and Lincoln High School who lost his life in a tragic car accident. Jake planned to enlist in the military after graduation. He was very outgoing, loved skateboarding and spending time with his family and friends. He loved animals, helping others and making people laugh. Jake lived his life to the fullest and believed that we are on this earth to help one another. He also believed in the importance of donating blood and organ donation. The criteria for this scholarship includes: have donated blood (not required, but preferred), must be a Clinton High School or Educational Advancement Center senior and registered for college and have a GPA of 2.0 or higher. Martha Seeser Verfaillie Scholarship – The Martha Seeser Verfaillie Memorial Scholarship fund awards scholarships to CHS seniors planning to further their education. The scholarship amount is interest based and the amount is not available until the spring of each year. Last year, three scholarships were awarded. Financial need, leadership potential, and concern for others shall be among the factors considered for the award. Applicants must complete the application, write a letter of application expressing reasons why they should be selected, list the name and address of someone that knows them well and would be willing to write a letter of recommendation and enclose a transcript. Applications can be picked up in the counseling office and should be returned by March 1. Deadline March 1, 2024
Martha Seeser Verfaillie Scholarship
Margaret Davis History Scholarship –The amount of money to be awarded is based on interest earned on the initial investment of the Margaret Davis family. $500 will be available for the Class of 2024. Candidates need an overall GPA of 3.0, GPA of 3.00 in social studies, and seven credits in social studies areas OR six credits of social studies which includes AP Government, AP Economics, AP Psychology, AP World History or AP US History. In addition to academic qualifications, the applicant must submit a paper of 400 – 500 words on a topic chosen by the CHS social studies department. The paper must be completed in standard research paper form. The chosen topic is listed on the application paperwork. Finalists for the scholarship may be invited to a personal interview with the scholarship selection committee. The committee will consist of a three-member group of social studies staff, chosen annually by the Social Studies Department chairperson. The winners will be selected based on their paper, and school and community citizenship. The scholarship may be awarded to one student or divided between two members of the graduating class. Margaret Davis History Scholarship
Denny L. Sander Memorial Scholarship – The Denny L. Sander Memorial Scholarship of $500 will be awarded to a graduating student-athlete from Clinton High School. Denny graduated from CHS in 1966, where he was a four-sport athlete. He was a leader in football, basketball, track and baseball. He was a member of Clinton High’s 1964 state championship in baseball. After high school, he was offered a minor league contract with the New York Mets, but turned down the offer and attended college, knowing the importance of an education. Denny’s college career hit a road bump when he was drafted for the Vietnam War. After the war, he returned to college to complete his degree. Denny returned to the Clinton community after college and continued to participate in sports of all kinds. He enjoyed coaching youth sports and seeing area athletes grow up and attend CHS. Eligibility Requirements include: student athlete for at least 3 years and has demonstrated leadership, character, coachable qualities in the classroom and in the sport(s) they participate in. Have a minimum GPA of 3.0 for all 4 years of school. Be enrolled or planning to enroll in an accredited 2 or 4 year school or trade school. Obtain one letter of recommendation from a coach, teacher, or advisor. Submit an essay how you feel athletics has helped you become the person you are today, and what it will do for your future. Denny L. Sander Memorial Scholarship
Alex Behr Memorial Scholarship – The family of Alex Behr and the Muddy River Rugby Club will award a $1000 scholarship to a Clinton High senior who is planning to further his/her education in either a two or four year college. Alex was a student-athlete and a huge supporter of Easton Valley schools and activities. Not only did he participate in sports himself, but could be found at all EV sporting events showing his school spirit for the River Hawks. The recipient of this award will not be based on GPA, but rather, school spirit of the River Kings/Queens and the love of the sport(s) which they participate in. To apply, seniors will need to write a 1-page essay including the following information: applicant’s name, further education/school plans and describe your experiences being a River King/Queen student athlete or support of the River Kings/Queens programs. A.H. Dall Scholarship – This local scholarship of $1000 is in memory of A.H. Dall, who was mayor of Clinton from 1956 to 1966. It is to be awarded annually beginning with the Clinton High School Class of 1965, to a worthy MALE member of each graduating class. Selection is based on class rank, scholastic achievements, potential for further success, and financial need. The application and two letters of recommendation should be returned to the Counseling Office. Deadline: March 1, 2024
Nathalie Hoop Scholarship – The Nathalie Hoop scholarship in the amount of $2000 per year for four years will be awarded to one CHS senior. The scholarship recipient will receive $2,000 per year for four years as long as they are enrolled as a full-time student, major in either education or social science fields and maintain at least a 2.5 GPA in their college studies. Application requirements: 2 letters of recommendation, GPA of 2.5 or better, transcript, 500-word essay on why student is entering their chosen field of study and why they are deserving of this scholarship, list school/community involvement, financial need, and completed application. Recipient must provide proof of enrollment each semester. Application materials must be turned into the school counseling office by March 1, 2024. Deadline: March 1, 2024
Grace I. and Mary E. Disbrow Scholarship – The Grace I. and Mary E. Disbrow scholarship was established in 2006 and will award a graduating senior a scholarship of approximately $2,250. Grace and Mary, who both lived into their 90’s, were sisters raised and educated in Clinton. Grace received a master’s degree from the University of Iowa and taught at Lyons Junior High School for 40 years. Mary was also well educated, with degrees from Grinnell College and St. Mary’s School of Nursing. Mary also served in the Navy for 14 years as well as working as a medical librarian for various hospitals. Applicants must rank in the top half of their class, complete the application, write a letter explaining why they should be selected and submit two letters of reference. Financial need of the applicant will also be considered. Applications are available in the counseling office. Once completed, application materials should be returned to the School Counseling Office. Grace I. and Mary E. Disbrow Scholarship
Trudy Proehl Memorial Scholarship – This is a $2,000 scholarship available to one senior in memory of Trudy Proehl who taught social studies at Washington Middle School in Clinton from 1949 until retiring in 1985. Trudy grew up in Iowa City and graduated from Iowa City High School. She received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Iowa in 1947 and a master’s degree from Colorado State in 1954. Scholarship recipient must be accepted to a four-year college/university and have a need for financial assistance. Applicants must complete application, provide two letters of recommendation, and write a 500 or more word essay describing how they have incorporated the CHS Trident ideals of fighting spirit, traditions, and loyalty into their high school career. Trudy Proehl Memorial Scholarship
Edward O. Anderson Scholarship Fund – The Edward O. Anderson family will offer a $1000 scholarship to a CHS senior who plans to major in the health care field in memory of their father. Edward was born in 1918, grew up in the Clinton area and graduated from CHS in 1936. Unfortunately, before he had a chance to get into a career, he was stricken with multiple sclerosis. Anderson relied heavily on the help of many people in the medical profession. To demonstrate his gratitude for the kind people in the medical profession, his family created a scholarship for students interested in becoming a part of the medical field. In 1994, Edward died just two years after the initial scholarship was awarded. Eligibility for the Anderson Scholarship is determined by the following criteria: the applicant must be a CHS graduating senior and must plan to major in the health care field. Financial need and scholastic achievements are also considered. Applicants must provide three letters of recommendation. Application materials must be returned to the School Counseling Office. Top three finalists will be interviewed by the scholarship committee, which will then make the final decision. Deadline: March 1, 2024

Bill Holsclaw Memorial Scholarship – The Bill Holsclaw Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to a student athlete who has participated in the CHS Track and or Cross Country Programs. The sum of $1000 will be given directly to the school you intend to enter this fall. ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS: Student athlete for at least 3 years in Track and or Cross Country, showing leadership, character, and coachable qualities in school and the sport, have a minimum of Cumulative GPA of 3.0, accepted by a 2 or 4 year accredited school, obtain letter of recommendation from coach, teacher, or counselor which speaks to your character, leadership ability and, if applicable, how coachable you are. Submit an essay on how athletics has enriched your life and what it will do for you in the future. Applications are available in the counseling office and must be returned by March 1. Bill Holsclaw Student Athlete Scholarship
Trade, Technical, and Industrial Scholarship – A scholarship in the amount of $1,000 will be awarded to a CHS senior who has taken a minimum of three trimester/semester credit hours of Industrial Technology or Vocational courses. Applicants must complete an application and include a copy of their transcript. Application and transcript should be returned to the CHS Counseling Office. The Trade, Technical and Industrial Scholarship selection committee may conduct scholarship interviews prior to selecting the scholarship recipient. The recipient will select a Trade or Vocational school or college, to be approved by the committee, which he or she wishes to attend. After admission is assured, the scholarship will be sent to the college and credited to their account. Deadline: March 1, 2024

Jack & Gerry Voss Memorial “Athletic” Scholarship – The $500 Jack & Gerry Voss Memorial Athletic Scholarship goal is to recognize and reward a student athlete who has contributed to his or her team on and off the field. Jack & Gerry were avid sports fans and attended many CHS sporting events, watching their children and grandchildren participate. The Jack & Gerry Voss Memorial Athletic Scholarship will be awarded to any graduating senior from Clinton High School who: is or has been a student-athlete and has demonstrated leadership skills both in the classroom and in the sports that they participated in. Must have maintained a “B” average in the classroom, be enrolled or planning to enroll in a 2 or 4-year college full-time. Prefer one letter of recommendation from a coach. Applicants should submit a short essay stating why they are deserving of this award. Scholarship will be awarded to an athlete who is NOT receiving a full athletic scholarship. The Voss family will review all applications and select the recipient based on their accomplishments. Jack & Gerry Voss Athletic Scholarship
Jack & Gerry Voss Memorial “Trade” Scholarship – Jack Voss owned and operated Voss Brothers Plumbing & Heating in Clinton, Iowa for over 50 years! His wife, Gerry, worked alongside of Jack as well, until their passing. Their son, Jeff, is currently operating the business. Jack & Gerry were very generous to the community and that is why their family is honoring their memory with a Memorial “Trade” Scholarship. This $500 scholarship will be awarded to a graduating senior of Clinton High School who has been enrolled in a trade program and who plans on pursuing a Trade in a post high school program. The scholarship money will be sent to the Institution the recipient plans to attend. Preference will be given to someone entering the Plumbing field, but consideration will be given to anyone entering a Building or Industrial trade. Applicant should submit a short essay stating why they are deserving of this scholarship. Applications and essay should be turned into the counseling office on or before March 1, 2024. Naval Commander Charles W. Monaghan Scholarship – Six $5000 scholarships will be awarded to graduating students from Clinton High School attending The University of Iowa or Iowa State. Students must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Applicants must provide one letter of recommendation from a counselor, administrator or teacher, show proof of acceptance to the University of Iowa or Iowa State, completed application and a 500 word essay. The selection committee will consist of the Superintendent of the Clinton Community School District, principal of Clinton High School and Richard Farwell. Applications are available in the Counseling Office and must be returned by March 3rd. Deadline: March 1, 2024
Charles W. Monaghan Scholarship Application
Robert & Julia Ann Hackett Scholarship – The Hackett Scholarship is in memory of Robert and Julia Ann Hackett who were born in Clinton during the 1920’s. Julia Ann attended and graduated from St. Mary’s Schools. Robert attended Clinton public schools through 11th grade, when he enlisted in the US Navy during World War II. They opened Hackett’s Jewelry and ran a successful business for several decades. Both loved and were proud of the Clinton community and attribute their success to their education and would like to give back by offering a $1000 scholarship to a high school senior. The scholarship will be awarded to a senior who has attended Clinton Community Schools grades K thru 12. Recipient may use scholarship for a two-year college, trade school or a four-year college/university. Application and a 500 word or less essay must be completed and turned into the CHS Counseling Office. Deadline: March 1, 2024
Robert & Julia Ann Hackett Scholarship Application
Emil E. Johannsen Scholarships – Emil E. Johannsen was a Clinton native that never had a college education. He was a decorated U. S. Army veteran who lived quietly at Clinton’s Lafayette Hotel until his death in 1998 at the age of 81. He never lived to where you thought he had any money and was a person that appreciated what you could do with an education and wanted to quietly help people. Upon his death Johannsen’s estate created five tuition scholarships of $1000 each for Clinton High School seniors and one $1000 tuition scholarship for one Prince of Peace Academy senior. The scholarship awards will be based on need and academic performance. First consideration shall be given to students planning to attend Clinton Community College but those going elsewhere should also apply. Transcript, one letter of recommendation and essay questions must be included with application. Applications are available in the counseling office and should be returned by March 1st. Lauz, Dr. Greg Educational Scholarship – This $200 scholarship was bequeathed by Dr. Greg Lauz who served the Clinton area as a pediatrician for over 20 years. The scholarship will go to a student that will be majoring in Humanities and attending a 4-year educational institution. Application requirements include: one letter of recommendation, GPA of 2.5 or better, transcript, listing of school & community involvement, attend 4-year educational institution and completed application. The CHS Scholarship Committee members will select one recipient for this scholarship. Applications should be returned to the Counseling Office by March 1st. Deadline: March 1, 2024
Dr. Lauz Educational Scholarship Application
Fred Ray Scholarship - The Fred Ray Scholarship is made possible by the kindness of Mr. Fred Ray who upon his death willed $1 million towards a new scholarship for Clinton High Students attending The University of Iowa. Mr. Ray was born in Clinton, graduated from Clinton High School in 1938, graduated from The University of Iowa College of Commerce in 1942, and served in the U. S. Army during World War II. He returned to Clinton after retiring from 33 years of service as the internal auditor, payroll supervisor, and retirement counselor at the University of Illinois Medical Center, Chicago Circle Campus. Upon his death, his will directed $1 million towards scholarships for Clinton High students attending the University of Iowa showing an interest in Business studies.
The Fred Ray Scholarship shall be awarded to students in the Henry B. Tippie College of Business at the University of Iowa who have graduated from Clinton High School in Clinton, IA. Scholarship amounts will vary. The scholarship is listed on the UI scholarship portal with a March 1st application deadline. Students can apply for scholarships any time before that date. Additional UI scholarships can also be found by visiting the University of Iowa scholarship portal. Screening of scholarship applications will begin just after the deadline date. Jeffery R. Yaddof Auto-Mechanic Scholarship – This $1000 scholarship is awarded to a CHS graduate who plans to pursue a career in auto mechanics or another vocational trade. Applicants must have been enrolled in the auto mechanics courses at Clinton High School. Criteria shall include: attendance, interest, and ability, but a student’s grades shall not be the sole factor, and the scholarship need not be given to the student with the highest grade in the auto mechanics course. The scholarship recipient shall be selected by the senior class administrator, senior class counselor and designated CHS teacher. If in the opinion of the selection committee, no student in the auto mechanics course deserves the scholarship, or there are no students in that course for any reason, the Jeffery Yaddof Scholarship may be given to a graduating senior who has been enrolled in either building trades or welding, or a similar course at CHS. Gladys E. Van Atta – This $250 scholarship was bequeathed by Gladys E. Van Atta who retired from teaching Home Economics at Washington Middle School after 34 years. The scholarship is to be awarded to a graduating Clinton High School student entering the field of Consumer Sciences (i.e. culinary arts, textile & fashion design, child and human development, nutrition & food service). Application requirements include: 2 letters of recommendation, GPA of 2.5 or better, high school transcript, 500-word essay, list of school and community involvement, completed application and entering the field of Consumer Sciences. Olson, Lillian V. Scholarship –The $1,500 scholarship bequeathed by Lillian V. Olson is to be utilized by a graduating CHS senior entering any field of post-secondary education. Lillian taught 5th grade at Longfellow School before her retirement. Lillian was passionate about teaching and was a generous community member. Application requirements include: two letters of recommendation, GPA of 2.5 or higher, transcript, 500-word essay, list of school and community involvement, and completed application. Lillian V. Olson Scholarship Application
UI Pearl Hull Falk Scholarship – The Pearl Hull Falk Trust administered by Midwest One Bank will award $5000 scholarships to worthy students of good character and scholastic ability. Each recipient of the Scholarship must be: of the Protestant faith, a resident of the state of Iowa, and a full-time student at the Univ. of Iowa. Additional requirements: transcript, 450-500 word personal statement, letter of reference and submit financial aid offer from the University of Iowa. Grand Lodge of Iowa MCEC Technical Scholarship – The Grand Lodge of Iowa, A.F. & A.M will offer the “Mark Earl and Esther Ruth Spencer Technical Scholarship”. Scholarships will be awarded to a number of graduating Iowa high school seniors who plan to enroll in a mechanical or trade course of study at an accredited Iowa Community College. Scholarships may be used for any bona fide school related expenses such as tuition, fees, books, and tools. In the selection process, an applicant’s academic record, communication skills, need for financial assistance and plans for the future are carefully considered. Organization, appearance, and completeness of the application are also factors considered by the selection committee. Official Transcript and personal resume’ in your own handwriting are required as a part of the application process. Grand Lodge of Iowa A.F. & A.M. Masonic Scholarship – The Grand Lodge of Iowa, A.F. & A.M. will be awarding fifteen $5000 scholarships and ten $2500 scholarships to high school seniors who will graduate this academic year from a public high school within the state of Iowa. The scholarships will assist graduating seniors in pursuing a post-secondary education in any state at an accredited institution which provides a two or four-year college program. The principal criterion is service to school and community with special emphasis upon leadership roles in these areas. The Grand Lodge of Iowa is looking for those students who exhibit the greatest potential to be not only of service to their communities in the future but also leaders in these communities. Applicants do not need to have Masonic connection. An applicant’s academic record, communication skills, and need for financial assistance are also carefully considered. From all applications received, the Scholarship Selection Committee will select a number of finalists who will be asked to appear before the committee for a personal interview. Interviews will be either conducted in person at a number of locations across the state, or via Zoom Video Conferencing.
