#CCSDStaffSpotlight in a new form (News), due to a great response from Micah!

Micah Cewe, CHS At-Risk Teacher

Favorite work-related memory:

"I was assigned to work with many at-risk students and primarily seniors who were credit deficient, a new role for the 2022-2023 academic year. It was my goal to motivate and monitor these students on a daily basis to complete their online work. During the fall semester, these students finished 116 online courses. The spring semester was a challenge as many seniors needed more credits than class time allowed. Many of these seniors spent time on the weekends and after school to complete a whopping 297 total online classes, just during the spring semester alone. It was very impressive to say the least, especially considering that 15 seniors who went from our 'watch list' to 'GRADUATE' was quite the accomplishment on their part. It was a great feat to see these students overcome such huge obstacles and ultimately walk across the stage during graduation ceremonies."

Favorite Volleyball memory:

"After taking a year away from volleyball during the 2022 fall season, it was a great welcoming and return from the Clinton volleyball community. Although our record did not indicate the growth our program made this past season, our seniors were a bright spot on Senior Night. They found a way to overcome many challenges during the season, eking out a 5-set thriller over Davenport North. All eight seniors contributed in small and big ways on that Thursday night. The look on their faces, the smiles, and the overwhelming joy that night after an exhausting match is the reason that I love coaching players who leave everything on the court."

What makes you passionate about Clinton Schools?

"After coaching volleyball at Ashford for 11 years before they closed the doors, I didn't really know my next work-related chapter in my professional career. Another door opened when a volleyball and teaching opportunity was available at Clinton High School back in 2016. It made sense to make the short trip across town to fill a volleyball and teaching position. I had been out of education for 11+ years, since graduating from Ashford University in 2005 with my Secondary Ed degree. My wife, Trina has taught Wellness courses in the school district for 20 years now and at the time it was an obvious choice to travel less and be at the same school and district our children would attend in the future. I do my best to surround myself with quality character and experienced people on our volleyball staff. The same was true when I made the switch to Clinton High School. The leadership with Mr. Kuch when I made the move, and now with Mrs. Shultz. The leadership and administrative team at Clinton High School and in the CCSD is top-notch and a community that I wanted to work with and for. I feel that I can make a small difference with the students and players that I interact with every day."
