Clinton High School is proud to announce the induction of K.C. (Rogis) Busch, from the Class of 1990, into our esteemed Hall of Honor. This honor recognizes outstanding individuals who have made significant contributions to their community, excelled in their profession, and served as inspirations to future generations. Dr. Busch is being recognized for her exceptional achievements in academic fields of science and climate change. Dr. K.C. (Rogis) Busch currently serves as an Associate Professor of STEM Education at North Carolina State University, where she specializes in science learning, and is also affiliated with the Leadership in Public Science interdisciplinary cluster. Dr. Busch’s relentless dedication to advancing educational experiences that empower individuals to engage in collective action not only improves their lives and communities and has made her a standout figure in the academic field.
After graduating from Clinton High School, Dr. Busch pursued her academic journey with confidence. She earned her Bachelor of Science in ecology from Iowa State University, followed by a Master of Arts in science education from the University of Texas. Dr. Busch then pursued a Doctorate in science education from Stanford University, solidifying her expertise in the field. Dr. Busch's career is marked by a profound commitment to education. She spent twelve years teaching secondary school science in Austin, Texas, where her passion for nurturing young minds flourished. Additionally, Dr. Busch enriched her professional portfolio with two years of invaluable experience in environmental education informally. This included service with the Peace Corps in Africa, the National Park Service in Nevada, and engagements in Vermont and Iowa, broadening her understanding of global educational dynamics. One of Dr. Busch's seminal initiatives has been her investigation into the use of language to teach about climate change in educational settings. Her research delves into how linguistic framing influences youths' perceptions of climate issues and their capacity to formulate solutions. Dr. Busch's pioneering work in this area has contributed significantly to the discourse on environmental education and advocacy. Beyond her academic endeavors, Dr. Busch is the co-founder of the Climate Change Education Collective, a testament to her proactive approach to addressing global challenges through education and collaboration.
During her time at Clinton High School, Dr. Busch experienced a general sense of well-being and had numerous opportunities for personal growth thanks to the unwavering support of her teachers. She formed a special bond with her science teachers, who played a crucial role in nurturing her passion from the subject. Driven by her determination to be the first person in her family to attend college, she maintained a persistent focus on her studies. Looking back, Dr. Busch advises future graduates of Clinton High School to surround themselves with individuals who foster personal growth and encourage them to become the best version of themselves. She also emphasizes the importance of interacting with peers and intentionally seeking out uncomfortable situations as a means of personal development.
