River Kings Tennis went on the road to face Assumption Tuesday. The Kings took one of the three doubles matches with Vinnie Srp and Jace Burgland winning in straight sets. The duo looked to continue their success in singles, but both narrowly lost in 3rd set tie-breakers. In the end, the Kings fell 1-8 to a much improved Knights team, but they all played much better than the score reflected. Go Kings!
The Clinton River Queens had a strong showing last night at the Fulton Relays, finishing 3rd overall against a competitive field. The night was highlighted by Elle Lonergan’s 1st place finish in the high jump (5’7”), earning top honors and continuing her outstanding season. Moving her to tied for 3rd in River Queen History we also had a new school record in the 100 hurdles by Alaina Carpenter in a time of 16.67. The Queens saw multiple podium finishes and personal bests: Alli Haskell placed 2nd in the 1600m with a PR (5:41.56). Camila Hunter finished 3rd in the 200m with a PR. Aubrey Ferguson placed 3rd in both shot put and discus. Maloree Byrns placed 4th in the discus. Zoey Seitz placed 4th in shot put and PR. Audry Gruhn 4th in the 300 hurdles. Molly Steiner 4th in the 400. Joselyn Petersen 5th in the long jump. Relay teams also contributed key points, including a 4th place finish in the 4x200 Jensen, Carpenter, Davis, Hunter. 5th place finish in the 4x400 Steiner, Gruhn, Haskell, Davis. Great effort across the board with many personal and season best performances. The River Queens continue to build momentum as the season progresses!
Last night, the River Queens soccer team continued their current home slate by welcoming in the Spartans from Pleasant Valley High. Clinton's ferocious defense held off the PV attack early, not giving up a goal until 15 minutes into the match. PV scored their second goal 13 minutes later. At the 12-minute mark of the 1st period Clinton found themselves down only 2-0 and were still in the match at halftime, trailing 3-0. PV demonstrated why they are highly ranked in the state of Iowa and turned on the juice in the second half. The Queens eventually fell to the Spartans by a score of 7-0. Brooklyn Cooley provided solid support in goal with 15 saves, and Zoey Steen stepped in 15 minutes into the 2nd half and provided 7 saves of her own. The JV Queens ran into a solid PV team and lost their match 10-0. Rotating in as goalkeeper for the JV Queens were Steen who had 4 saves, Violet Hensel had 5, and Teyla Threatt provided 2 saves on the evening. Come out to Coan field this Thursday as the River Queens host Rock Island in an interstate battle with the Rocks. Varsity kicks off the evening at 5:00pm followed by the JV at 7:00pm. Thanks to our supporters who came out to cheer on the Queens last night, we hear you!!!
