Clinton Volleyball fell to No. 1 Assumption, 3-0, Tuesday night at home, with the River Queens battling throughout against the MAC’s top-ranked team. Freshman Grace Griswold led Clinton with 9 kills, while Molly Steiner added 5 kills. Alaina Carpenter directed the offense with a team-high 11 assists, and Audry Gruhn recorded the team’s highest attack percentage at .214 while also contributing 2 assisted blocks. Defensively, sophomore Tenley Cewe turned in a strong performance against Assumption’s conference-leading serving game, recording a game-high 15 digs and a 2.32 passer rating. Senior Tucker Secrest added 1 solo and 1 assisted block, while Griswold also contributed 2 assisted blocks at the net. Despite the 25-18, 25-15, 25-14 loss, the River Queens continued to fight throughout the match and will look to bounce back Tuesday, Oct. 6, at home against Bettendorf at 6:30 p.m.

The River Queen Swimmers had their first home meet of the season last night, hosting the Davenport Schools Swim Team. Despite winning 5 events (2 by Eloise Brisch, 2 by Mia Zimmer and the 400 Free Relay of Zimmer, Lauren Whitney, Grace Ewer and Nora Prosise), the depth of Davenport was too much to overcome for the short handed CHS team and the Varsity fell 109-64. The JV Queens took home another victory 13-10. The Queens will be back in competition Tuesday, October 6th at home for Senior Night against Muscatine.

Yesterday, the River Kings golf team participated in a quadrangular golf meet with North Scott, DeWitt and Davenport North at Glynns Creek golf course. The Kings finished fourth, three strokes behind North, but again shot their lowest team total of the season! The Kings fired a four-person score of 336, led by Carter Thorpe's 79. Also scoring for the Kings were Mav Hensel with an 83. Tanner Fedderson scored his lowest round of the year, helping the team by firing an 84! Rounding out the scoring was Thomas Hays with a 90. Also competing but not in the scoring were Brenner Swanson and Griffen Keefer. The Kings are back in action on Monday at the district golf meet that returns to Glynns Creek as they look to qualify for the state tournament.
