The Varsity River Kings welcomed powerhouse Western Dubuque to Coan Field last Friday night as we celebrated our seniors. WD showed why they are one the top teams in the entire state, and mistakes plagued the Kings all night en route to a 41-0 defeat. Ethan Carpenter led the King offense with 96 rushing yards, which brings his season total to 1,177 yards. This is most rushing yards in a season since 2015 for the Kings. Nate Lundin added an interception for the King defense as well. We want to thank all of our seniors for their hard work over the last four years. We have one game remaining this Thursday at Brady Street Stadium against Davenport West. Go Kings.
Congrats to our Freshman River Queen Volleyball players as they finished 2nd at the North Scott Freshman tournament this past weekend. The tournament hosted 16 total teams from Iowa and Illinois. The Queens won Pool D by sweeping all of their opponents (Moline, North Scott and Davenport Central). The four pool winners went to the Gold Championship bracket where the Queens defeated Assumption to advance to the finals. The Queens came up a little short in the Championship Match but battled hard against Pleasant Valley. Congrats ladies!
The River Kings freshman sophomore reserve team fell to the Camanche Storm, 38–20, in a hard-fought matchup. The River Kings found the end zone three times, highlighted by a touchdown pass from Mycah Sims to Jacobi Lea. Sims added a rushing touchdown of his own, while Jeremiah Green also found the end zone on the ground. Defensively, the River Kings created three turnovers and played strong football for much of the contest. The defense battled hard and made key plays to keep the team in the game before Camanche pulled away late as the River Kings began to run out of gas.
The CHS Girls swimmers traveled to Morrison last night for the Morrison Reverse Invitational. The Queens finished off their regular season taking 2nd in the Varsity Division and bringing home the win in the JV division. Wins for the Queens came in the Varsity 200 Free Relay (Eloise Brisch, Lauren Whitney, Georgia Zirkelbach and Mia Zimmer), JV 200 Free Relay (Jeanne Emmert, Stephanie Rollins, Ava Schaefer and Adalynn Elmore) and Varsity 200 Free (Eloise Brisch). Next up for the Queens is the Muscatine JV Invite on 10/31 followed by Regionals at Linn Mar on 11/7.
