The Clinton River Queens traveled to DeWitt last night for some exciting postseason volleyball, and the rivalry did not disappoint! Over the past four years, the DeWitt Sabers had defeated the Queens during the regular-season MAC slate. Clinton broke that streak this past Wednesday with a sweep of the Sabers in conference play. The Queens also have a history of winning postseason five-set thrillers at DeWitt, and last night added another chapter to that tradition! The Queens jumped out to a 2-0 lead before the Sabers battled back to win the next two sets and force a deciding fifth set. With multiple players stepping up and making big plays when it mattered most, Clinton held its composure and pulled away for a 15-10 fifth-set victory to advance! Maggie House led the Queens' attack with 15 kills, while Audry Gruhn added 10 kills to help balance the offense. Alaina Carpenter led the way with 18 assists while running the 6-2 offense. Grace Griswold nearly recorded a triple-double, finishing with 13 assists, 10 kills, and 9 digs! Gruhn also made her presence felt at the net, recording two solo blocks and three block assists to help lead the Queens' defensive effort at the net. Tenley Cewe dug up 19 opponent attacks, while Molly Steiner delivered an outstanding all-around performance with 16 digs and six aces on 31 total serves! When the match was on the line, House stepped up at the service line in the fifth set, rattling off six key serves to help create separation and push the Queens across the finish line. It was a huge team effort in another memorable postseason battle at DeWitt! Next Up: The Queens travel to Dubuque Wahlert tomorrow night as postseason play continues! A special THANK YOU to our STUDENT SECTION for bringing the energy and supporting the Queens all season long! You were absolutely ROCKIN' last night! We appreciate you showing up and making your presence felt! LET'S GO, QUEENS!
