On Tuesday evening, the River King Golf team concluded the season with their end-of-year awards banquet. The River Kings improved dramatically this season! The 4-person season average for all meets this year was 352.20, the lowest recorded in over eight seasons! That is a team average score of 88.05 for the season! In early September meets the average was at 95.0. Also, the Kings recorded their lowest single meet score in over seven years at the DeWitt Invitational with a 339, earning 5th place out of 10 teams! Winning the Varsity MVP award was Mav Hensel who was low-man on the team with a season average of 86.9. Thomas Hays earned the "Swing King" award for the most Varsity improvement over the season. Hays finished with an average of 88.3. Brenner Swanson also completed the season with 88.3. Carter Thorpe earned the "Coach's Teammate Award" and completed the year with an 88.8 over all meets. Low single meet scores for Varsity were Hays with 77, Hensel with 78, Thorpe with 79, and Swanson with 84. All four top Varsity players return next season, so the Kings are planning to "go low" next year! Other Varsity awards handed out at the banquet were Varsity Team Spirit Award won by Griffen Keefer. The JV winners were: Coach's Teammate Award won by Cale Lampe; the JV Rookie Award-Tony Hansen; and the JV Team Spirit Award was won by Zac Hagge. Special recognition was made to team fans Paul Niedermeyer and Tyler Swanson for their season-long support of the program! Also, the donation made to the team by ADM that was organized by Coach Thorpe will help the Kings purchase new CHS golf shirts for the entire team! Final thanks went out to the parents for their unwavering support of the boys golf program, and making sure their student-athletes attended every practice and meet throughout the season! Great season KINGS!
