SUICIDE PREVENTION

If someone you know exhibits signs of suicide:

  • Do not leave the person alone

  • Remove any firearms, alcohol, drugs or sharp objects that could be used in a suicide attempt

  • Call the U.S. National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-8255

  • Take the person to an emergency room or seek help from a medical or mental health professional

Warning Signs of Suicide:

  • Talking about wanting to die

  • Looking for a way to kill oneself

  • Talking about feeling hopeless or having no purpose

  • Talking about feeling trapped or in unbearable pain

  • Talking about being a burden to others

  • Increasing the use of alcohol or drugs

  • Acting anxious, agitated, or recklessly

  • Sleeping too little or too much

  • Withdrawing or feeling isolated

  • Showing rage or talking about seeking revenge

  • Displaying extreme mood swings

  • The more of these signs a person shows, the greater the risk. Warning signs are associated with suicide but may not be what causes a suicide.

Anyone who notices something suspicious or atypical behavior can report to building administration, school staff, or if necessary, local law enforcement.   We take the safety of our students and staff seriously and therefore we encourage you to reach out if you see something suspicious.

Offers safe, emergency shelter options for victims fleeing intimate partner violence. Victims needing safe emergency shelter can call the 24-hour Crisis & Support Line and talk to an Advocate about their situation, discuss options and create a safety plan. Services are free and confidential.

Iowa Protective Order Notification for Domestic Abuse (IPONDA): 1-888-742-8463

IPONDA is a free and confidential telephone service that provides petitioners two important features: information and notification.  IPONDA provides victims of domestic violence, stalking, harassment, and sexual assault access to timely and reliable information about the service status of their protective order or no-contact order.  Victims can receive automated notification 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and 365 days a year by telephone, the Internet, or email. By telephone, victims can always contact a live operator who is trained in victim services by calling 1-888-742-8463.

Iowa Victim Information & Notification Everyday (IowaVINE) 

IowaVINE is a free and anonymous telephone service that provides victims of crime two important features: information and notification. Across the state, crime victims and other concerned parties use IowaVINE for access to timely and reliable information about the custody status of an offender. Victims can receive automated notification by telephone, the Internet, or email 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Registrant Watch

Registrant Watch works by transmitting near real-time information from the Iowa Sex Offender Registry database system to the Registrant Watch Service. Crime victims and other interested parties can access the information visiting the Iowa Sex Offender Registry website any time day or night or calling 515-725-6050. Victims can inquire where a registrant is located, as well as information on other identifying characteristics, and register to receive automated notifications via phone, text or email when this information is updated.

Riverview Center is available during business hours to provide crisis counseling, discuss services, appointments, and assistance whether it is a survivor’s first time calling or one of many calls during a difficult time.  During the evening and on weekends, the crisis hotline is the best way to get in touch with Riverview Staff if you are in crisis or if an emergency has occurred.

Results can be filtered based on cost, amenities, number of bedrooms, proximity to public transportation, whether the landlord requires a criminal background check, rental assistance accepted, accessibility features, and more. Individuals seeking housing and service providers can call a toll-free, multilingual call center for assistance with housing searches at 1-877-428-8844. The call center is available Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Central Time. Listing information can be provided by phone, email, mail, and fax.

The Warm Line is a peer-run, telephone-based, non-crisis, confidential, listening line for anyone struggling with mental health or substance abuse issues. The Warm Line is staffed by people who have been through a similar journey and are in recovery themselves.
