The River Queen Basketball team played on Saturday night in their District game against the Maquoketa Cardinals. The Queens played a tough opponent and could not overcome their size inside and their shooting from long range and ended their season losing 61-25. Leading the team in scoring was Alli Haskell with 11 and Carryn Sattler with 6. Sattler added 9 boards and Aubrey Fergurson added 7. The Queens ended their season at 9-14 but will have everyone returning on a team with no seniors.
Last night, the River Kings made their way to Decorah to take on the class 3A #2 ranked Vikings of Decorah High School in the first round of the 3A state postseason basketball tournament. The Kings battled hard from the opening tip, staying close into the second quarter. But the Vikings kept increasing their lead starting midway through the second quarter and into the second half. The Kings could not account for all of the weapons the Vikings possessed, and ended up losing the game 52-77. Thank you to this year's Seniors: Mharlo Guy, Jordan Coleman, Tyler Daniels and Cole Johnson. We are so appreciative of the hard work and dedication you have given to this program and want to wish you good luck in your future endeavors. KINGS WIN!! KINGS WIN!! Last night, the River Kings showed that when they play four strong quarters of basketball they can run with the big dogs! The Kings strong effort resulted in a 62-53 win against a solid Davenport Central squad, avenging a loss from earlier in the season. The Kings were led by the lock-down defense of Cole Johnson early in the game, Cole Shannon's 16 points, 15 points from Marshall Johnson, 13 points from Jordan Coleman and 11 points by Mharlo Guy. What a GREAT team effort! Congratulations to the Seniors who were recognized before the game: Jordan Coleman, Tyller Daniels, Mharlo Guy, and Cole Johnson. Your hard work and contributions to this program are very much appreciated, you have set the tone for where this program is headed!! Thank you to the great fan support last night! It was a blast sharing the W with Clinton High students, family members and fans!! The Kings open post-season play on Monday in Decorah. Thanks again for a memorable season!! GO KINGS!!
