Attention Students interested in Marketing, Management, & Accounting. We have the opportunity to compete in the Titan Jr. Achievement Experience on April 3rd at St. Ambrose University. For this competition students will act as a CEO of a phone company, to make executive decisions, analyze outcomes, and create strategies. If you or your team would place during the competition your team would move on to the scholarship round held on April 10th. Each student in the 1st place team would receive $1000, 2nd place members would receive $750, and 3rd place would receive $250. If you are interested in this simulation competition please come to Mr. Pataska by Monday, February 10th to learn more about the opportunities. Last Saturday two groups of FBLA presenters performed at the Virtual District Leadership Conference. Lila Keister and Bryanna Samuels presented on Social Media Marketing Strategies and placed 3rd. Aubrey Rivers presented on Graphic Design, placed 4th. Congrats to all! FBLA offers all students the opportunity to develop leadership and creates valuable connections with other academically driven students from across Iowa. If you would like to be part of FBLA and the State Leadership Conference in March please come to the FBLA meeting Today right after school to begin registration and prep for the conference. No game club today after school. To juniors and seniors who are ordering an AP poster, you will need to get your money to Mrs. Leafgreen sometime this week. If you aren't sure how much you owe or have other questions, email her. The lunch ladies will be opening our new "scaled down" version of Concessions stand next week 2/10. High School Color Guard Tryouts will be on three Wednesdays: February 26, March 5, and March 12 from 2-3:45 at CHS Yourd Gym. It is mandatory to attend all three. Even if you have never played before, come and bring a friend. You'll learn a great life time sport. Besides you "newbies" to the sport, we will also be carrying some of the top players in the state! If you borrow something from the library don’t forget to return it. Loaner computers, headphones, loaner chargers, or books. Items are checked out to you so if you don’t return them you will be charged. Reminder Loaner chargers are to be borrowed for ONE class period and then returned so others can borrow them. The River Queen Basketball team swept the North Scott Lancers with the JV starting things off with a convincing 39-25 win in the opener. Phoebe Levine led the way with 13 points with Kassidy Eggers and Samantha Powell adding 8. Arra Greene led the team in rebounding with 5 boards and Powell had 4. The Varsity Queens kept it rolling and eventually closed the game out with a solid victory 52-47. The Queens never trailed the Lancers and held their ground in the end with timely shots and making their free throws moving their record to 6-10 on the season. Leading the Queens in scoring were Carryn Sattler with 18 points with freshmen guards Alli Haskell and Lilly Hankins both adding 13 and 10. Aubrey Fergerson added 15 boards and Haskell added 7 assists and 3 steals. The Queens want to thank the student body for their support last night during the game and band members who all provided a great atmosphere to play in! The Queens take on Pleasant Valley Spartans at home on Friday. Last night the River Kings took on the Lancers from North Scott high school in a MAC Conference battle. Despite their heroic efforts, the Kings fell to North Scott, the Freshmen losing 39-57, the Sophomore squad dropping their contest 51-75, and the Varsity Kings were defeated by a score of 59-81. The River Kings are back in action this Friday night when they travel to Pleasant Valley to take on the Spartans! Congratulations to the River Queens on their wins last night!! Thanks for the effort to both the Kings and the Queens!! Keep grinding!!! Your River King Swimmers ended their regular season on a high note. The Kings traveled to Morrison to take on the Mustangs. Kings were victorious with a score of 60 - 30. The Kings won 5 of the 8 events. Burland, Dornbush, Haskell, Heath, Todtz, Srp, Wright and Zimmer were all involved with 1st places. Thanks to all the fans for their support this season. Kings travel to Muscatine this Saturday for JV Invitational and to Dubuque the following Saturday for the District meet. GO KINGS!! Congratulations to the River Royalty Speech Team for their performance at district competition this weekend! The following events received a division 2 rating out of 4: The Left Unsaid Project and the group improv teams of House and Pulido and Bacunawa, Buelow, and Determan. Moving on to state on February 8th with a division 1 rating will be the short film Petals and Thorns, Ensemble Acting, Reader's Theater, and Solo Mime. Congratulations again to all our performers! The River Queens ended their regular season on a high note! In a tight team race that came down to the final two matches of the tournament, the Queens just missed the tournament championship by 10.5 points. The Queens were led by Champion Akemah McClendon, runner up performances by Alaina Carpenter, Liv Lonergan and Cambrie McLoyd. Lauren Whitney, Jaedyn Lemon and Aumree Russell fought hard for a 3rd and 4th place finish. Scoring valuable team points in tough brackets were Molly Steiner and Jharia Knox. The Queens now have their sights on Friday’s regional tournament at Cedar Rapids Jefferson! If you see a River Queen wrestler, congratulate her in a very fun and exciting season! Great job ladies and good luck on Friday! On Saturday January 25th, the CHS Bowling Teams had our final conference meet for the year against North Scott. All teams won their meet except for the Junior Varsity Boys. The varsity boys won 3101 to 2764. The varsity girls squeaked out a close win with a 2584 to 2576. The JV boys lost 2138 to 2217. The JV girls won 2052 to 1634. The varsity boys final meet record with 7 wins and 1 loss and the varsity went undefeated with 8 wins and 0 losses. Great job by the teams this year. There are only invitationals remaining before state qualifying on February 17th and 18th. Top scorers for Boys Varsity were:Charlie Pelham: 2 game series of 435, Brycen Lawrence: 2 game series of 491. Top scorers for Girls Varsity were: Emily Whitehead: 2 game series of 355, Maren Schwarz: 2 game series of 408. Top scorers for boys JV were: Cael Schwarz: 2 game series of 305, Cutter Overton: 2 game series of 334. Top scorers for girls JV were: Keira Palmer: 2 game series of 309, Laynie Steines: 2 game series of 323. Congrats River King wrestlers on a good showing at the Bob Lueders Invitational Saturday. The Kings finished 10th out of the 21 teams. Danny Peters won a Championship, the first one for the Kings at this tournament in 8 years. Brady Jennings placed 4th and Brody Harrington and Hayden Chandler placed 6th. All of the River King wrestlers competed hard and never quit.
