The River King wrestlers lost a hard fought match against #9 ranked PV last night 49-23. Winning for the Kings were; Danny Peters, Brady Jennings, Jordan Stafford, Hayden Chandler and Brody Harrington. JV Winners were; Scott Pasakarnis, Chase Collender, Eric Harris, Cooper Cooley, Zane Weaver, and Liam Petersen. Great Job Kings! Your River King swimmers took on the Rams of Dubuque Senior last night in the River King and Queen Aquatic Center. The Rams defeated the Kings 112 - 41. The Kings raced the Rams tough and had several season best and even some LTB's. The Kings had several close finishes and had one lone victory by Wright in the JV 100 Free. The Kings travel to Burlington this Saturday for the Burlington Invitational and they will be home next Thursday hosting Davenport Central for Senior Night. Come cheer on your Kings. Go KINGS! The “joke of the day” will be a “comic of the day”. Last night, the River Kings traveled to Davenport to take on the Knights at Assumption High School in a MAC Conference basketball game. The Freshmen Kings were in a tight contest, and were leading by 4 points at the half. The Freshmen ended up being defeated 35-48. The Sophomore Kings played aggressively all night, were leading by 14 late in the game, and held on for the WIN, beating Assumption by a score of 48-46!! The Varsity Kings ran into a tough Assumption team and lost 51-76. The Kings are back in action this Friday night as they travel to Davenport North in another conference tilt. GO KINGS!! The River Queen basketball team split in their games against Assumption last night and moved their record to 6-5. The Queens held the Knights scoreless in the 3rd Quarter helping to seal the victory 27-22. Kassidy Eggers was the leading scorer at 6 with 9 total players scoring for the Queens. The Varsity Queens lost a heart-breaker after playing solid offense and defense for most of the game but let the lead slip away in the final seconds to fall 42-41. Sattler led the Queens with 10 points while Fergurson and Haskell had 8. Haskell also had 6 assists and 5 steals. The Queens move to 4-7 and have been in position to win their last four games. The River Queens lost a heartbreaker early to Iowa City High, but came back winning in dominating fashion against Davenport. The Freshmen were in a close game early, down only three points at halftime. Muscatine pulled away in the second half and won by a score of 67--30. The Sophomore Kings fought hard but could not overcome the Muskies and lost by a score of 66--29. The Varsity Kings gave a tremendous effort but also fell to the top team in the conference, 71--39. Thank you to all of the supporters who made their way to Muscatine! The Kings are back in action Tuesday night with road games at Davenport Assumption. GO KINGS!! Congratulations River King wrestlers on winning two out of three dual meets at the triangular in Marion last night. The Kings beat Beckman 65-10 and Maquoketa 65-13. The Kings lost the finale to Marion 43-36. With the second win on the night the Kings won their 600th dual meet in the history of the school which started back in 1929. Winning for the Kings were Jason Wheat, Jakob Litherland, Camdynn Bray, Brody Harrington, Ty Sander Welzien, Alfonzo Herrera, Danny Peters, Brady Jennings, Ethan Carpenter, Nolan Eggers, Damarius Robinson, Jordan Stafford, Hayden Chandler, Sloan Weaver. Winning their JV matches were Nate Lundin, Liam Petersen, Eric Harris , Cooper Cooley, Landon Clark, and Wyatt Grahm. Yesterday the CHS Bowling Teams had a conference meet against Davenport West. All teams won their meets except for the Junior Varsity Boys. The varsity boys won 2994 to 2795. The varsity girls won 2373 to 2128. The JV boys lost 1942 to 2229. The JV girls won 1904 to 643. Top scorers for Boys Varsity were: Brycen Lawrence: 2 game series of 443, Charlie Pelham: 2 game series of 488. Top scorers for Girls Varsity were: Tucker Sechrest: 2 game series of 340, Grace Hake: 2 game series of 353. Top scorers for boys JV were: Cael Schwarz: 2 game series of 286, Cutter Overton: 2 game series of 317. Top scorers for girls JV were: Keira Palmer: 2 game series of 29, Laynie Steines: 2 game series of 375. The River Queen basketball teams split last night against Davenport West. In the JV game, the Queens came out quickly and built a 23-7 halftime lead and eventually held on to win 36-23 taking their record to 4-4. Leading the scoring for the Queens were Lilly Hankins with 8, Samantha Powell and Phoebe Levine with 7, Kassidy Eggers 6, Arra Greene 4, and German foreign exchange student Anna Moser with 3. In the varsity game, the Queens were even with the West Falcons through the first 3 quarters until the Queens finally were able to get up by 5 points midway through the 4th quarter but were not able to hold the lead. With some opportunities to tie the game late, the Queens rallied multiple times but couldn't get their shots to drop and lost the battle with one last shot at the buzzer to win the game that hit the rim and bounced out. Leading the Queens in scoring were Ali Haskel and Aubrey Fergurson with 12, Carryn Sattler with 8, and Lilly Hankins with 7. Leading rebounder in the MAC Conference Aubrey Fergurson continued to grab every board she could and ended up with 18. Sattler also had 11 boards while Haskell had 4 steals. The Varsity Queens move to 3-5 on the season and play Muscatine on the road on Friday and Geneseo on Saturday. Last night the River Kings traveled to Davenport West High School to take on the Falcons. The Sophomore Kings battled hard but lost to the Falcons by a score of 69 -- 50. The Varsity Kings played a closer game but ended up on the short end, losing 65 -- 54. Auditions for the spring play, Miss Nelson is Missing, will be held on Tuesday, January 7th from 6-8 pm and Thursday, January 9th from 4-6 pm in the choir room. Join us in the library for “Read a Latte” Mon, Jan. 13th after school until 4:15 pm and/or Tues, Jan 14th at 7:40 am till homeroom. CHS International Club will meet today after school in room A317. Brr, it's cold! Sweater Weather is here and your teachers have designed sweaters for you! Find them outside of the library, all 28 choices. Choose your favorite design and vote for it in the library. The teacher who's design gets the most votes will win a prize. There are some AMAZING ones to look at including ones that feature teacher faces on them! Show your teachers some appreciation of their "sweater weather" designs! Voting is open until January 17th. The winner will be announced on 1/21. If you are interested in taking True Crime through Literature next semester, please make sure you return your signed consent form to the counseling office! The River Queen Wrestlers beat Dewitt in a thriller last night in Yourd Gymnasium. The Queens were led by Alaina Carpenter, Lauren Whitney, Cambrie McLoyd, Jaedyn Lemon and Molly Steiner all picking up big wins! Liv Lonergan and Akemah McClendon picked up some extra points winning by forfeit. The meet came down to the last match with Jharia Knox avoiding bonus points and ultimately winning the meet for the River Queens! Great job by all! Thank you to all of those who came out to support!
