The RK basketball Sophomore opened up the boy-girl double header with a valiant fight in a thrilling home contest against North Scott, ultimately falling 44-39 in a game that featured multiple lead changes and exciting momentum swings. Despite the loss, the team showed tremendous heart and resilience, bringing their record to 1-2 on the young season while displaying the kind of competitive spirit that will serve them well moving forward. River King Freshman played a physical North Scott team and ended up ultimately falling 65-40. The Freshman fought hard and competed, But the Lancers offensive firepower was not able to be matched on a tough shooting night. RK Basketball Varsity battled hard at home against North Scott varsity but came up short in a 72-56 contest, bringing their season record to 1-2. Despite the final score, the team showed tremendous heart and individual brilliance throughout the game, with several players delivering standout performances that demonstrated their growing potential. The River Kings go on the road this Tuesday against Pleasant Valley and then finish before the break at home with a boy girl doubleheader with DeWitt. Go Kings!
A night filled with tough matches, the River Queens finished 3rd at the Zimmerman Invitational. If there is one thing that makes us so proud it's our girls' drive to get better every match. Our team is very young and these girls are working very hard. So excited for our future! Great job ladies! The River Queens basketball split on Friday night vs North Scott Lancers. For the young Queens, they were led by Audry Gruhn who had 14 points and 8 rebounds while Lilly Schneeberger scored 10 points and had 4 steals. Kassidy Eggers added 8 points for the JV Queens who now move to 3-1. The #9 ranked Varsity Queens who were 4-0 heading into this game, lost a heartbreaker battling back to gain the lead after being down most of the game but eventually losing on a long desperation three pointer at the buzzer. Filling the stat sheet for the Queens were Aubrey Fergurson with 21 points and 23 rebounds. Alli Haskell added 16 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 steals, and Carryn Sattler added 6 points, 5 boards, and 4 assists. The Queens play #15 ranked PV tomorrow night with a chance to get back on track.

The River King JV wrestlers traveled Friday night to compete in the Marion JV Invitational. The Kings battled hard and came home with several medals. 1st place winners were Magnus Kjormoe and Isaiah Lines. 2nd place winners were Chase Collender, Joey Anderson, Liam Petersen, Zane Weaver , Cooper Cooley, Angel Lines, and Cormac Nichols. 3rd place winners were Camdynn Bray, Jonah Rogis, Jack George, Griffen Keefer, Roger Schumacher, Marvell Estes, Riley Engelkins, Zach Woods and Bastien Balous. 4th place winners were Oliver Steward, Ray Vongxay, David Peralta-Flores, Joaquin Donaire, Titus Moody, Logan Spooner, Cordell Clark, Lucas Hewitt, Chris Soesbe, Chaz Zirkelbach, Diego Donaire, Dylan Dean, Joel Romero Morales, Wyatt Graham, and Tre Engelkens.
The River King wrestlers placed second in the 16 team Maquoketa Invitational Saturday. Iowa City High finished with 260pts, followed by the River Kings 220.5 and Davenport North was 3rd with 185. The Kings placed 12 wrestlers out of their 14 entered. Everyone contributed by winning at least one match. Danny Peters and Brody Harrington were crowned Champions both with dominating performances. Danny was 4-0 on the day with 3 falls and a technical decision. Brody was also 4-0, with a forfeit, a fall, a decision and a major decision. Awesome job! Hayden Chandler also wrestled extremely well placing 2nd place in a hard fought match losing a close one 7-3. Taking home the 3rd place medal for the Kings was Hunter Ball. 4th place winners were Jakob Litherland, Eric Harris , Nolan Eggers, and Sloan Weaver. 5th place winners were Adis Ravmanoski, and Damarius Robinson. 6th place winners were Mark Stoddard and Ty Sander-Welzien. Great Job Kings!
On Saturday, December 13th the Varsity girls attended an 18 team Prairie Baker Tournament at Cedar Creek Lanes in Cedar Rapids and came home with a second place trophy and medals. They bowled 14 Baker format games and were seeded 3rd in brackets with a score of 2531 and averaging 180.7. The girls faced Davenport North in the first round and won with scores of 181 and 205 to their 167 and 191. In the second round they faced Cedar Rapids Kennedy and won the match with scores of 181, 229, and 179 to their 190, 162, and 151. This put the girls into the championship bracket where they faced Waterloo West and finished in 2nd Place with scores of 189, 214, and 152 to their 196, 179, and 183. It was a great afternoon for the Ladies.

The short handed River King swim team was on the road last night against Davenport Central. In a hard fought, exciting meet that came down to the last relay, the Kings fell just short to the Blue Devils 67-60. Highlighting the night was the medley relay of Asher Dornbush, Jace Burgland, Vinnie Srp and Dylan Todtz with the event win, a 1-2-3 finish in the 50 free by Todtz, Srp and Burgland, and a win in the 100 back by Dornbush. Despite the tough loss to the traditionally strong Central team, a number of Kings had season and lifetime best swims as they battled hard. The Kings are back in action Thursday, 12/18, against Bettendorf at the Kings and Queens Aquatic Center.

The River King wrestlers lost to a very good Davenport Assumption team last night 57-17. Cooper Cooley won his match in exciting form in the ultimate tie breaker 6-3. Jakob Litherland won by a fall, Danny Peters won by a tech fall and Hunter Ball won by forfeit. The Kings travel Saturday to compete in a 14 team tournament in Maquoketa.

Yesterday, the CHS Bowling Teams had a conference meet vs North Scott at Plaza Bowl. The varsity boys lost 2457 to North Scott’s 3046 while the varsity girls had a solid performance and won 2767 to North Scott’s 2526. The JV girls also won 1736 to North Scott’s 1034. Top scorers for Boys Varsity were: Ryan Greve with a 2 game series of 378, Cutter Overton with a 2 game series of 379. Top scorers for Girls Varsity were: Laynie Steines with a 2 game series of 383, Kiara Krueger with a 2 game series of 432. Top scorers for girls JV were: Carli Brunson with a 2 game series of 255, Keira Palmer with a 2 game series of 339.
The River Queen basketball team played last night against previously unbeaten and ranked #9 in 5A Bettendorf in what turned out to be a great win for the Queens and moving to 4-0 on the season. Rallying in the 4th Qtr after being down double digits, the Queens fought and clawed and ended up on top with a 73-65 win. The Queens had 4 girls in double digit scoring behind Guy's 26, Haskell's 19, Fergurson's 13, and Sattler's 10. Haskell also added 8 assists and Fergurson added 11 boards. The sophomore Queens battled the whole game and were tied going into the 4th Quarter before falling 35-43. Leading the Queens were Tenley Cewe with 10 points. Brooklynn Fuller added 4 steals and Kassidy Eggers added 6 boards. They moved to 2-1 on the season. The Kings and Queens play at home against North Scott on Friday in a boy-girl double-header.
River King basketball opened up their conference season in a tripleheader vs bettendorf last night. The program started the night with a freshman battle where the freshman saw themselves down early. Throughout the second half the freshman kings battled back and gained the lead late, but could not hang on and ended up falling to a final of 44-53. RK basketball Sophomore battled hard at home but fell to Bettendorf 71-34, evening their record at 1-1. Despite the challenging final score, the team showed flashes of offensive potential throughout the contest and gained valuable experience against a strong opponent. Dorian Hill emerged as RK's offensive leader, putting together an impressive performance with 11 points working hard in the paint throughout the game. RK Varsity battled hard in their home matchup against Bettendorf but came up short 59-45, evening their record at 1-1. Despite the final score, the team showed tremendous fight and individual excellence, particularly from standout performer Cole Shannon, who delivered an impressive 25-point performance. While the final score didn't go their way, RK demonstrated resilience and individual excellence that will serve them well moving forward.

The River Queens basketball teams picked up two wins on Friday night against Davenport Central. The JV Queens won their game 50-33 and moved to 2-0 behind Tenley Cewe's 18 points. The Varsity Queens moved to 3-0 beating the Blue Devils 77-37. Jhaliana Guy had 28 pts while Carryn Sattler had 14. Alli Haskell led the team in assists with 7 and Aubrey Fergurson led the team with 6 rebounds. The Queens are at 5-0 combined and looking to continue their streak as they face Bettendorf tonight on the road.
